For Love Nor Money
This band line up has been together since the recording of Walls of Hope in 2006 and it really shows. The understanding between Allie Fellows’ accordion, Chris Drinan’s flute and whistles and Jim Sutton’s Double Bass has grown from strength to strength during that time and for this CD John has written a collection of new songs that are tailor made for his, and daughter Emma’s vocals, and the bands carefully considered arrangements.
Add to that a great set of tunes; a wonderful version of a song by Iris DeMent, sung by Emma; a tune contribution each from Chris and Allie; Phil Beer’s superb fiddle playing and Mick Dolan’s magic dust and you have For Love nor Money which is surely the best album to date by the band.
John already has a list of songs that have passed into the tradition and there will undoubtedly be more from this collection. Taplas once said “Richards is a master of his craft” while Bill Caddick described John as “One of our finest writers and singers”.
This new album will surely further enhance John’s reputation as one of our finest writers and the band’s reputation as one of the most entertaining, emerging acts on the folk scene.
